TISH HINOJOSA

Tish Hinojosa is a folk singer from San Antonio, Texas. She’s the youngest of 13 children and her parents were Mexican immigrants. Her Mexican heritage is often shown in Hinojosa’s music, either in influence or that she sings in Spanish. Since her debut “Taos to Tennessee” from 1987 she’s released 16 albums. “West” is her first release since 2013 and has 13 songs. All except for five are written by Tish. On “West” she has a really tight band backing her up with guitarist Marvin Dykhuis, pianist Chip Dolan, Marty Muse on steel, Gene Elders on violin, bass player Glenn Kawamoto and drummer Rick Richards. Producers are Dykhuis and Dolan together with Tish. My favorites are the ballad “Cryin Out Loud”, “I Can Be the Wind”, the starting title track “West”, “Perfidia” where Hinojosa sings in Spanish and “Can’t Say It Matters Anymore” that both has some swing and some shuffle in it. Tish Hinojosa gives us 48 minutes of lovely country music in different forms. Something for every true friend of music.
