Tish Note - July 2022

Austin, TX

Hey my friends,

A little summer check in. I hope you are all doing well wherever you are. Above all – staying as cool as possible. Since my last note, I have some not great health news to share. I had a mishap while moving some furniture and tore my left shoulder rotator cuff. I had surgery and have been going through physical therapy. None of it is fun, but, I’m so glad recovery is going well and I’ll be good in a couple more months. I apologize that I had to cancel the northwest concert dates in late May and early June. Upcoming dates, later mentioned are going to be honored!

Sadly, here’s ANOTHER shoulder accident story: my guitar player and pal, Marvin Dykhuis recently broke his left shoulder while doing some construction work on his dad’s house in Wisconsin. He is in surgery today. Hopefully, he will be on the road to recovery soon too.
Healing from these situations takes lots of patience. Physical therapy is not easy, but it is very necessary. If some of you follow Marv on Facebook, etc, please send him well wishes. I’m sure he’ll appreciate it.

I have some dates in the Midwest coming up soon. Although my shoulder isn’t back to 100%, I’m good to travel and to play. Chip Dolan, our trusty and talented keyboard player, (although he’s rightfully worried about hanging out with Marvin or me), will accompany me on two shows coming up at The West Theater in Duluth, MN on August 4th and at The Sugar Maple Festival in Madison, WI on August 5th.

Other news: last month, Lynn and I had a chance to visit Ireland to attend a wedding. It was our first visit to Europe since Covid so we were cautious but excited to be traveling abroad again. It was beautiful and got us out of the Texas heat for a week. We got to visit with Lynn’s family and other dear friends of ours. What a beautiful and friendly country! Hopefully, if things continue to get better, we’ll plan a European music tour in 2023!

Right around Fourth Of July weekend we paid a visit to our family members that live in the Seattle area (my son and his family and Lynn’s niece). From there, we took a road trip back to Austin. 3,000 miles of Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas! Now Lynn and I have both officially visited all 50 states!! Check off the bucket list!

I have written and am rounding up new music to start recording in the coming months. I’m also looking forward to my upcoming concerts this year. Please stay posted to my tour dates. Please stay safe out there. I hope to see y’all down the road.

Before I leave, I want to send a shout out to my friends Marcel and Roman and their band Eastern Rain in Hamburg, Germany. We stumbled upon each other when I lived there in the 2000s. I was welcomed as an “honorary member” of the band and got to perform with and record on several of their songs. I fell in love with their Grateful Dead/Byrds style and approach to songwriting and harmony. Here’s a link to Eastern Rain - https://easternrain.bandcamp.com/

All for now! Please check out the tour dates and merch on mundotish.

Have a safe and fun rest of the summer!

Abrazos,

Tish

Tish Note - April 2022

April 15, 2022

Hola Amigos!!

Here’s a quick note, particularly to my Arizona and Southwest U.S. friends. I have a very special concert coming up in Tucson at The San Agustin Presidio on Saturday, April 16. This show will bring together a cultural blend of Mexican, Mexican-American, and Native-American songs and stories with my musical friends Gertie Lopez (and The TOBoyz) from The Tohono O’odham Nation, Ted Ramirez, Tucson’s legendary folk-singer and songwriter, and myself.

Gertie (of GertieNtheTOBoyz) is from the Tohono O’dham Nation of central and southern Arizona. She is a premier “Waila” button accordion player (Waila is the O’odham word for “dance”). She is the recipient of the 2017 Southwest Folklife Master-Apprentice award, and was inducted to the Tucson Musicians Hall Of Fame.

Ted Ramirez is “Tucson’s Official Troubador” as cited by Tucson Mayor in 2001. He was a member of The Santa Cruz River Band, and is Artist-In-Residence at the Tucson and Tubac Arizona Presidio Museums.

Being that I have become a part-time citizen of Arizona these days, I have enjoyed sharing the stage with both Ted and with Gertie. We always have fun and I truly enjoy sharing songs and tales of our Southwestern lives and histories. I know it will be a memorable evening at Tucson’s historic Presidio. Please join us if you can!

I will be in McAllen Texas at The Quinta Mazatlan on May 12 with Marvin Dykhuis, then with The Texicana Mamas in Eugene and Portland Oregon May 20 and 21. Then in Kerrville, Texas celebrating The Kerrville Folk Festival’s 50th Anniversary on June 1. (I’ve played the festival since 1979 when I won the New Folk songwriter contest!) One final early summer date is The Bugle Boy in La Grange, Texas on June 11. After that, I’ll be taking time off the musical road for some personal travel, songwriting, and recording.

I hope you have a wonderful Easter Holiday, and a fun and safe summer. Let’s all get additional Covid Booster shots so we can continue to make progress in fighting the virus, and can feel happier and safer at concerts, events, and with our families and friends.

Sending love and hugs to you all!
