Tish Note - Spring 2019

Hi Amigos!

I hope this finds you well and looking forward to spring. While driving around San Antonio and Austin the last couple of days I’ve noticed some bluebonnets sprouting along the highway! Good sign that spring time in Texas is here.

I was quite busy this fall and winter touring my new record West. We had several shows in California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. While in the northwest, I enjoyed some personal time skiing with my son and his family in Steven’s Pass, Washington. It was so beautiful and fun. I hadn’t been skiing in 14 years, but as they say, it was like riding a bike. It all came back easily. Well, I didn’t try to hot dog ski either. I’m very happy with blue squares and avoid the black diamonds.

I recently received surprising and exciting news that I will be inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters! An amazing privilege and honor for Texas Writers. The institute was formed in 1936 to celebrate and recognize Texans literary achievements. Among earlier recipients, are Larry McMurtry, Sarah Bird, Naomi Shihab-Nye, and my mentor, Americo Paredes. Last year they opened up nominations to include singer-songwriters and Willie Nelson was the 2018 recipient. (Actually, Joe Ely was inducted in 2017 as an author.) I am thrilled to be second in line after Willie! Thank you, Texas Institute of Letters for this recognition. I am truly honored. Now I’m inspired to finish my book!

Coming up on March 30, I will have a show at La Peña in Austin, TX with long-time friend, internationally acclaimed singer and activist from Nicaragua, Katia Cardenal. Stories and songs from her many years of collaboration with her brother, the late Salvador Cardenal, and her own work to date are inspiring and beautiful. Her voice’s passion and honesty is unforgettable. She does not play often in the U.S. so please make a date to join us for this very special performance.

I have a Europe tour developing late May through June. Please check the tour section of mundotish.com to see the schedule. Confirmed dates are posted. Others will be added as they are confirmed. So far, I will be in London, Germany, Netherlands, and Italy. Sweden and Norway may be added. It has been a number of years since I have been back to Europe. I am very much looking forward to revisiting favorite places and to visiting with old friends.

More music news – My Homeland - our re-make of my 1989 record Homeland will be ready for release this spring! The 30th anniversary edition is produced by my long-time music companion Marvin Dykhuis and myself. We recorded it in the same studio as the original, at The Fire Station in San Marcos, TX, with the original engineer, Gary Hickenbotham. We added a bonus track and my liner notes include inside stories behind the songs. A&M Records put Homeland out to pasture around 2000. I am so happy to be bringing it back to life. I think you will enjoy it. PRE-ORDER MY HOMELAND CD NOW AT WWW.MUNDOTISH.COM!!

Gracias friends so much for your continued support!

Abrazos,

Tish
