Tish's Corner
November 2005
Dear Tishfriends,
It is autumn now. The days have been pretty mild here in Texas, as they were in New England, Ohio, and New Mexico on recent visits. Of course, as we know, all of that can change rather quickly. The weather has been running around doing some pretty wild things lately.
The incredible onslaught of hurricanes was amazing. Wasn't it? Hurricane Katrina was so devastating for Louisiana and Mississippi. The chaos and uncertainty left in its wake has touched us all. Because many New Orleans folks ended up in Austin, where there is already a strong musical connection, a little silver lining has appeared on the clouds. My long-time fabulous road and stage buddies, Chip Dolan and Marvin Dykhuis wrote a song called "Bucktown". Cyril Neville of the famed Neville family of New Orleans and an all-star Austin-New Orleans ensemble recorded it. It is a soulful and touching piece of work about the town, about the storm. I'll go ahead and add that Chip is putting the final touches to his own fine CD of mostly original songs. Check out his website www.chipdolan.com for details.
This has seemed to be quite a season of tragedies, upheavals, and changes, even close to home for me. I suppose there will always be bad, but we have to try to make things as good as we can. We are resiliant creatures, but I am aware that life and love are fragile and precious. As Chip wrote in our "Song For The Journey"..."if we don't count our blessings, we're wasting our time...".
Well, on the Mundotish front, there will be some nice additions, changes, and improvements being made to the website in the coming months, be watching for those. Signing up on the e-mail list should be easier now. Also, stay tuned for some upcoming December in Texas dates, including a little boot-scooting for our country music lovers!
There will be no Taos Ski Christmas for us this year. I do still highly recommend Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico for great skiing, great cuisine, and wonderful evening entertainment. The illusive DVD project that I've been talking about for too long now which includes music videos, interviews, history, and nice stuff from our archives, is finally on the fast track for release. I'll keep you posted on that and other news in my end of year note.
Till the next one, I wish everyone the best of everything at Thanksgiving. Be happy and be safe!
con amor,
Tish
