Tish's Corner
June 2005
Well,
Summer is here bigtime! Austin, Texas has been having it's first wave of high heat with humidity as an added bonus. Maybe later in the summer it gets as bad or worse, but we may be used to it by then. These first ones are killer.
This past week-end was a busy one. For one thing, remember the major house cleaning frenzy I mentioned in my last note? The results of the house cleaning ended up filling my garage to overcapacity. I was a little afraid of going in, or worse, that the fire department would drive by and see it! Anyway, I had a pretty successful garage sale and what's left of the smaller things I am donating to my daughter's school garage sale. The only big things left are two antique pieces of furniture (a dining room chest and a roll-top desk) which are difficult to part with, but they had to go. (Hint: They're listed with craigslist.com, a great shopping website in Austin, if anyone is interested).
The coolest thing I did this week-end was playing at a democratic fundraiser event. I got to share the stage with two Austin music greats, Doyle Bramhall Jr. and Joe Ely, along with speakers Jesse Jackson Jr., Howard Dean, Senator Lloyd Doggett, writer Molly Ivans, and some fresh new faces in politics and slam poetry. The atmosphere was really optimistic, passionate, and encouraging. It was so incredible to see Stubbs filled to capacity, even on a hot Texas night. I wish the rest of the world could have seen this. We're still here folks, you just don't see or hear much of this on national news these days.
That's about it for now. I will be enjoying some personal travel time with family and friends soon. I am really looking forward to that. I have a festival in New York state coming up in a few weeks. The new C.D. is getting some nice press. I'm happy for that. Things are going good in general. Thanks for your continued support.
I hope to see y'all down the road.
Love,
Tish
