Tish's Corner
Juli 2006
Hola Everyone!
I am doing alright, I hope you are too. I have been all over the place in the last few months, and there is plenty more to come , some for work, some for play, all of it interesting.
There was the visit to Minnesota in late April / early May. I had not played there in a while. Overall it was a good and warmly received week. Nothing to do with music, but a really memorable part of the tour was spent at the Science Museum in St. Paul, where we checked out the "Bodyworks" exhibit that's been touring the world and happened to be there. Fascinating and incredible!
My wonderful man from Germany had a break from work and joined me on the road from Minnesota to Austin to the hill country around Mason/Llano Texas. The outdoor concert at Willow Creek Ranch where I was accompanied by Marvin Dykhuis couldn't have been better. Great audience, beautiful weather and a picturesque sunset. We also had the honor of meeting and hanging out with writer Scott Zesch, author of several important Texas writings and a native of Mason. His books on the subject of the area's early settlers, and his own relative's kidnapping and captivity by Comanche indians called "Captured" is a great work. It is not biased to either side, but really insightful and historically informative, and above all just a good read that I recommend to anyone interested in the learning of mankind and culture's conflict and communion. But ... meanwhile, back at the ranch, we were treated to great hospitality and a ride around town in Scott's '67 GTO.
Back in Austin, a busy time awaited us: Settling in from a move, a visit by one of my nephews on a cross-country trip, a great Violent Femmes concert attended, my daughter's high school graduation, then seeing her off to Mexico for a nice break after her hard work. I went back on the road out west for a Deschutes River trip with my friends and outfiters, the "High Desert Drifters". Then it was back east for the beautiful Clearwater Festival in New York.
I spent the last weeks in Germany, just in time for the Soccer World Cup excitement. I had been prepared to some extent by having attended some local St. Pauli team matches in Hamburg. But the overall fever felt at the local hang-outs for the matches was quite thrilling, especially amidst the multi-cultural celebratory public gatherings.
I am looking forward to California coming up, and there's some dates around Texas too. I am beginning plans for another recording. I'd like to focus on Latin America's "canciones romanticas" for this one. The DVD project is "still in the works", my hair is an on-going "work in progress" too. (In case you have been sitting on the edge of your seat for follow-up to my "hair episode" mentioned in the last Tish's Corner.) Maybe the DVD and my hair will find simultaneous happy endings. Sooner than later, I hope.
I am looking forward to more areas of interest being added to the website. Thanks for checking in to my world now, and do check our site and calender often. We are trying to make improvements all around. I suppose that can be said of so many things: life, love, friendship, work, good things need constant cultivation.
Enjoy the Summer. I look forward to seeing you at one of our shows soon!!
Love,
Tish
